About Kim

I received my Masters in Counselor Education in 1998 from the University of Virginia and also became a Nationally Certified Counselor. After 15 years of working with students and their families in education, I became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2013. I have also taken courses in conflict resolution and mediation which enables me to help clients find the “win-wins” in their lives. In addition, I am a Certified Highlands Consultant which allows me to administer and provide feedback on the Highlands Ability Battery, which is one tool I use in my holistic career counseling approach.

In my practice, I see adolescents and adults for a variety of issues including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, stress, transitions/major life decisions, and career concerns.  I especially enjoy helping people find their natural gifts and abilities, which can lead to a good major or career fit.

I provide individual counseling using solution-focused and cognitive therapies.  I also employ a whole person process approach to career counseling so that all factors are considered when making vocational decisions.  I strive to provide my clients with a safe, nonjudgmental environment to better understand themselves and move toward a fulfilling life.  I often learn as much from my clients as they do from me and I consider therapy to be a highly collaborative process.

I also believe in giving back to the community that has been so good to me.  I am a member of the Clarke County Mentor Board and am a school based mentor. In my spare time, I like to recharge my battery by exercising, cooking, meditating, and spending time with my family.  I live in Athens with my husband and two children.
